Ensure New York remains the world’s best place to live and work.

As New York City prepares to celebrate its 400th anniversary, we are at a crossroads. From its earliest days, New York has been a magnet for diverse talent, an economic powerhouse, and a world class center of culture and the arts. Today, our people and institutions are struggling with the high costs and increasing complexities of a rapidly changing urban environment. Few feel empowered to make a difference. The Coalition for New York’s Future aims to equip New Yorkers with the tools and information they need to become effective agents of positive change. Together, we can ensure that New York remains the world’s best place to live and work.

We are dedicated to empowering New Yorkers to effectively advocate for policies that ensure New York is safe, affordable, and strong.

Keep NYC Safe

We are committed to reducing crime in New York by supporting sensible reforms that discourage repeat criminal offenders, reduce the number of cases dismissed because of technicalities, and enable law enforcement to do their job. We support empowering courts and medical professionals to protect both the patients and the public, so that those in mental distress receive proper treatment rather than living on the streets or ending up in jail. And we believe in the importance of fighting for policies that strengthen public safety and at the same time provide access to job training and employment opportunities for ex-offenders.

Make NYC More Affordable

We believe that it is possible to reduce the cost of living and doing business in New York through a combination of incentives, fixing outdated laws and regulations, and smart public spending. In far too many cases – health, education, social services, housing– New York spends more per capita than other states, with no better outcomes. Record high rents, for example, are primarily due to high real estate and utility taxes, insurance costs triggered by excessive legal liabilities, and bureaucratic rules that delay much-needed housing development. It is time to take on the special interests that have made New York unaffordable for the average household.

Invest in Improving Quality of Life

We know that New York’s growth engine is its ability to attract diverse talent and that doing so requires maintaining world-class amenities and high-quality city services. The greatest city in the world must be clean, have a great public transportation system, a vibrant arts and culture scene, abundant green space, and strong, diverse neighborhoods. The pandemic took its toll on quality of life in our city. The time is now for city government to prioritize investing in the things that made us all want to live and work in New York to begin with. A place to start is investing more in infrastructure and essential services, while cutting back on discretionary city spending and eliminating inefficiencies in government.
